The Jigawa State Police Command has issued a warning to motorists traveling on the Gwaram–Basirka road to be extra cautious after the Bagadaza bridge collapsed due to heavy rainfall. Spokesman SP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident in a statement, advising drivers to exercise care to avoid accidents.
SP Shiisu also revealed that police personnel have been deployed to assist travelers in navigating alternative routes safely. The bridge collapse has impeded traffic along the highway connecting communities in Kano and Jigawa states with parts of the North-East.
The incident evokes painful memories, as another collapse on the same bridge in 2024 resulted in the death of 21 people. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging drivers to cooperate with security operatives and prioritize their safety.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property in the region amid increasing challenges posed by infrastructural failures worsened by extreme weather patterns.
